Aloe, the largest genus in Asphodelaceae family, comprises 548 species, with A. vera, arborescens and ferox being among most widely studied species. Aloe species originated arid climates cover various habitats, from sea level up to 2700 m, desert closed-canopy forests. For human health, are richest natural sources. The biological activity of sp. constituents covers a wide spectrum. Most indications come traditional, folkloric use several have been verified by vitro or vivo studies. Emodin, main phenolic component, has showed anti-neoplastic, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic toxicological potential for pharmacology. Polysaccharides, acemannan important, present high abundance gels. Acemannan reported applications oral, metabolic cardiovascular diseases, oncology, dentistry wound healing. effectiveness on colon, liver, duodenum, skin, pancreas, intestine, lungs kidneys cancers was highly remarkable findings.
